Paddy Richardson

I am the author of two collections of short stories, Choices and If We Were Lebanese and eight novels, The Company of a Daughter, A Year to Learn a Woman, Hunting Blind, Traces of Red, Cross Fingers, Swimming in the Dark, Through the Lonesome Dark and By the Green of the Spring.

Traces of Red and Cross Fingers were long-listed for the Ngaio Marsh Award and Hunting Blind and Swimming in the Dark were short-listed. Three novels, A Year to Learn a Woman, Hunting Blind and Traces of Red were published in Germany by Droemer Publishers and Swimming in the Dark was published by Macmillans, Australia. A Year to Learn a Woman (re-named Watching You) Hunting Blind, Traces of Red, Cross Fingers (renamed Red Hands) were re-published by BrioBooks/Booktopia to the Australia market 2022.

I have been awarded four Creative New Zealand Awards, the University of Otago Burns Fellowship, the Beatson Fellowship, the James Wallace Arts Trust Residency Award and the Randell Cottage Residency. I am an experienced teacher of creative writing, am a mentor and assessor for the New Zealand Society of Authors Creative Writing Programmes and have judged awards such as The Ngaio Marsh, the Michael Gifkins Unpublished Novel Prize and the New Zealand Heritage Book Awards. I have been a panel speaker, reader and speaker at many writing festivals.
