Thursday 6 May
9.30am – 11am & 1pm – 2:30pm
Otago Girl's High School

Schools' Programme

The Dunedin Writers & Readers Festival is delighted to present two sessions in our 2021 schools programme at Otago Girls’ High School.

This year, we have opened these events up to tertiary students as well - please click the link below the details for each session to book. Tickets are $10 each.

Session one – Making a Life in the Arts
9.30am – 11am, Thursday 6 May
Steff Green and Gareth Ward share insights about the fame, fortune, and hard work that come with making a career in the literary arts.

Gareth, aka The Great Wardini, is a magician, hypnotist, storyteller, bookseller and author. He has worked as a Royal Marine Commando, Police Officer, Evil Magician, and Zombie. He runs two independent bookshops and writes rip-roaring young adult Steampunk adventure. Gareth will discuss his writing journey – possibly with a little magic thrown in….

Steff has gone from failed archaeologist and obscure music blogger to a USA Today bestselling author with a six-figure income. Legally blind since birth, Steff is also the creator of Rage Against the Manuscript, a podcast, books, and courses to help writers tell their story, find their readers, and build a badass writing career.
With dozens of examples from across the publishing landscape and real-talk from her own career, Steff shows how imagination, creativity, and perseverance can help to achieve writing dreams.

Please note, there are no door sales.

Session two – Te Kai a te Rangatira
1pm – 2.30pm, Thursday 6 May
Sharing wisdom garnered from more than 100 interviews with Māori with a track record of service and contributing to Māori. Life-changing for all involved, we celebrate this kaupapa and its transformative power with editors Rawiri J. Tapiata, Renee Smith, and Marcus Akuhata-Brown, and some of the rangatahi, Naianga Tapiata and Anitaa Raumahoe Morris, building this kete of wisdom.

See the work at https://www.tekaiaterangatira.com/.

Please note, there are no door sales.

Our thanks to our major funders
