Angela Wanhalla
Angela Wanhalla is a Kāi Tahu historian based at Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka where she researches and writes about Māori history, particularly Māori women's history.
Her key publications include the award-winning Matters of the Heart: A History of Interracial Marriage in New Zealand (Auckland, 2013), Of Love and War: Pacific Brides of World War II (Nebraska, 2023), and co-wrote He Reo Wāhine: Māori Women's Voices from the Nineteenth Century (Auckland, 2017) with Lachy Paterson. Her co-authored book, Te Hau Kāinga: The Māori Home Front in the Second World War (Auckland, 2024), was shortlisted for the Ernest Scott Prize in 2025.
