Barbara Brookes is Professor of History at the University of Otago. Her most recent book is A History of New Zealand Women (Bridget Williams Books, 2016), shortlisted for the Ockham Best Illustrated non-fiction award. She has written extensively on areas where the history of women and the history of medicine intersect. She is currently working on the biography of a traveling nineteenth-century woman doctor, provisionally entitled ‘Performing Medicine’.
